Today I’m going to talk about the shelf life among the 6 types of tea. Green tea has the shortest shelf life, it can only be stored about one year at normal temperature, or 18 months in a refrigerator. Then it is black tea. It is a fully fermented tea with a relatively long shelf life which is more than two years. For some large leaf species black tea, it’s good for even longer storage. For white tea, there is a saying in China – it’s still tea after 1 year storage, it’s medicine after 3 years storage, it becomes treasure after 7 years storage. So the longer storage time it counts, the more delicious and expensive it is.

The next one is dark tea, it can be stored for a pretty long time in a moisture-proof environment. Generally speaking, the taste of loose tea can reach the best level after being stored for 3- 5 years. For pressed tea, you will have the best taste during 10-15 years. The next one is yellow tea, as the most low-key tea, it has one more process in the production than green tea, it has the same shelf life as green tea as well – 1 year to 18 months.

Then it’s about oolong tea. Oolong tea is semi-fermented tea, generally speaking, it can be kept for about 18 months to 3 years depending on the type and technique. The last one is Puerh, as the most popular tea in recent years, Puerh is known for the characteristic of getting value with age. The ripe puerh tea can be stored for about 15 years, if it’s raw puerh tea, then you can keep it as long as you like, the taste will get better and price will get higher.
